About the Goethe A1, A2 and B1 German exams

The Goethe-Zertifikat German exams assess your ability to communicate in German according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). German Exam Practice prepares candidates for Goethe-Zertifikat A1: Start Deutsch 1, Goethe-Zertifikat A2 and Goethe-Zertifikat B1, covering the official skill areas: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

A1 confirms basic German for simple everyday situations and is recognized as proof of language proficiency for spousal reunification. A2 confirms elementary German for familiar routine communication. B1 certifies independent German language use and is recognized as proof of language proficiency for a settlement permit and naturalization in Germany.
